Intense, colourful interior paintings

Biography

Artist trained at Chelsea School of Art, known for her colourful interiors and figurative works.

Biography

Penny Graham studied at the Chelsea School of Art in the early 90s and has attended Maggi Hambling's life classes regularly for the last 20 years. She is known for her intense and colourful interiors, with subjects ranging from the magnificent Carved Room at Petworth to the tiny interior of Roald Dahl's writing hut.

Her talent lies in conveying the spirit of a place. Most of her rooms are sitting rooms and studies, though she has painted numerous kitchens, halls and even a bathroom. She works in gouache and ink on paper, with sizes ranging from around 10in by 12in up to 23in by 15in.

When not working on commissions in situ, she paints still lifes and figurative works in oil at her West London studio, developed from photographs and scrapbooks. Her works are in private collections in the UK, France, Italy and the USA, and have been commissioned by leading interior decorators including Veere Grenney, Colefax and Fowler and Tino Zervudachi.
